Families
Free parking, four acres to run around in, and a picnic-friendly site. Bring the kids for an afternoon on the moor, then stay for a show built for all ages.
Date Nights
Candlelit, canopy-covered, and impossible to replicate anywhere else. Grab a drink from the bar beforehand and watch the stars come out over the stage.
Celebrations
Birthdays, anniversaries, reunions — our bar, gardens and intimate Studio make for a genuinely different kind of gathering. The whole site is available to hire.
Day Trippers
Four acres of gardens, paths and green space on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Come for a wander even on a day with nothing on stage.
Getting Here
Find Us
Sterts sits in Upton Cross, six miles from Liskeard, eight from Callington and ten from Launceston — within easy reach of the A30 and A38, about an hour from Truro and 45 minutes from Plymouth.
Public transport onto the moor is limited. If you'd rather not drive alone, a car-sharing network like Liftshare is worth checking before you set off.
Free onsite parking for every visitor, including a dedicated disabled parking area.
From January 2026, two EV charging points will be available on site.
Just off the A30 and A38 — around an hour from Truro, 45 minutes from Plymouth.
Public transport onto the moor is limited, so allow plenty of time and consider sharing a lift.
Before the Show
Food & Drink
Our volunteer-run bar stocks wine from The Cornish Wine Company, snacks from Redmoor Snacks, and ice cream from Treleavens Luxury Cornish Ice Cream — all Cornish, all close to home. The bar opens an hour before Barn Theatre shows and 30 minutes before performances in the Sturrock Studio (times can vary for special events, so check your listing).
Sterts doesn't have an onsite café, so for something more substantial we'd point you toward one of the excellent pubs, restaurants and farm shops nearby. You're welcome to bring a picnic onto site — just not your own alcohol; there's a bar for that.

We strive to offer a comfortable, accessible experience for everyone visiting Sterts. If you have a specific access requirement, get in touch before your visit at hello@stertsarts.org or 01579 362382, and we'll do everything we can to help.
All seating is unreserved, except accessible seats, which can be booked in advance — reserving one automatically reserves a companion seat alongside it.
We don't yet have an ear loop installed. It's a provision we're committed to and hope to offer soon.
Free essential companion and carer tickets are available wherever possible — just get in touch before you book.
Three accessible toilets and a registered Changing Place, with a height-adjustable table and hoist, are on site.
On Site
The Spaces
Barn Theatre
500 seats, built around the original amphitheatre benches — we'd recommend a cushion. It's wind and rain proof but not heated, so dress for the weather and bring a blanket in spring or autumn.
Sturrock Studio
A flexible, intimate space for 70–100, our Studio hosts everything from new plays and R&Ds to live music, poetry and community workshops throughout the year.
